As the end of Q2 draws closer for businesses, a lot of us are already looking forward and planning for the final half of the year. This is a perfect time to re-evaluate and assess the goals that we set at the beginning of the year and define the outlook moving forward to ensure that we stay on track. But more importantly, it’s an essential time to ensure that your team is still on track with where your company ultimately wants to be as it relates to general objectives and goals.
For many business owners, the main goal is to achieve and establish a position where their company becomes a cash flow generating asset that requires little attention from yourself to operate. At this point business owners can take back control and prosperity in their lives and see what they are truly made of! This all starts with ensuring that the team is engaged and willing to embrace what you have
As focused, passionate and hell-bent you may be as the owner and leader of the business, thinking that your team is aligned and knowing that your team is aligned are two very different things. This can be a challenge but following two critical steps will put you and your team on track to achieving 100% alignment.
- Set Objectives and Goals WITH Your Team
An alarmingly low rate of employees actually understand their business’s plan of action (strategy) and what the end-goal really looks like. If they don't know what the goal is, the team is inevitably challenged in understanding what needs to be achieved and how it needs to be achieved. When people don’t feel that they are clear about the end-goal and don’t feel they are making progress due to a lack of clarity and tools to do so, they become disengaged and unproductive. Remember, what you, the business owner understands to be “common sense” may not be at all common for your team.
The end result causes confusion and misalignment which inevitable strips away profit opportunity your business rightly deserves after working hard to achieve results! Ensure you make your goals and the plan to achieve these goals visible to everyone involved, no matter how close or far they are directly involved in achieving the stated goals.
- Provide Added Value to Your Team
Keep in mind that as you and your employees move along in doing whatever can be done to achieve business success, your employees continue to grow and learn from their experiences. Just as you are highly passionate and focused on growing your business, so your employees are highly focused on growing and developing themselves through this journey. If so, your employees will passionately support the business in its growth and development.
Keep your finger on the pulse of your team and continuously connect and evaluate whether they are still on track and if they have everything they need to continue contributing to the business’s success. Be open and flexible to course-correcting based on the feedback you receive from your team. This will allow your business to be flexible as it bobs and weaves through changes that occur while working to achieve the goal.
